Ideal platform
Instagram has proved to be an ideal platform to launch businesses. Careers are built on ‘likes’, and the female body has become a fleshy MasterCard – a conduit to free shoes, guest-lists, endorsements or trips in private planes. Take Justin Bieber re-gramming an image of Spanish teenager Cindy Kimberley, a babysitter earning €4 an hour, who’s now a catwalk model. And there are many more examples like that. It proves that women with huge ambition, an attractive physique and the right audience, can make some good money with their semi-nudies.
Sex sells
Maybe women on Instagram always wear bikinis because they’re never cold, but it’s more probable that they’re just, intentionally or unintentionally, following an old marketing law. Sex sells and it always will.
